“The paramount obligation of a college is to develop in its students the ability to think clearly and independently, and the ability to live confidently, courageously, and hopefully.”
Our Mission
The mission of Scripps College is to educate women to develop their intellects and talents through active participation in a community of scholars so that as graduates they may contribute to society through public and private lives of leadership, service, integrity, and creativity.
Message from the President

Our Focus
Learn about the impact of a Scripps education and lasting strength of the College through the accomplishments of our community of scholars, supportive alums, families, and donors, and long-term financial stewardship.
Academic Distinction
Our accomplished students thrive in an academically challenging environment led by dedicated faculty scholars, researchers, and leaders in their fields. Scripps’ robust curriculum is central to its distinguished academic reputation. The tenets of our curriculum remain consistent—an interdisciplinary approach and a broad and deep liberal arts focus, with a foundation in the humanities.
Exceptional Students
Malena Sparano ’26, a linguistics major with a minor in Chinese culture and society, received a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship to study how culture and language education form identity. Sparano was one of only nine juniors across The Claremont Colleges to receive the fellowship.
Student Research
Scripps students pursue wide-ranging interests in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM—and discover new and inventive ways to combine these fields of study, often with the goals of challenging assumptions, increasing access, and improving the world. At Scripps, our students enjoy a vibrant community where they live and learn together.
Scripps College remains a top producer of Fulbright recipients, a distinction it has earned for more than 10 consecutive years.
